Review: Iron Man 2!

The superhero blockbuster sequel of the summer hit cinemas all over the world within the last two weeks and boy did it hit them big. The Jon Favreau directed piece, much like it’s predecessor was definitely entertaining and littered with references a Marvel fan would recognise, Easter eggs if you will. One of the things ‘Iron Man 2′ wasn’t missing was most certainly charm, where by all means Robert Downey Jr. was the quirky and narcissistic heart of the film as he played a now laid back and trying to enjoy life, Tony Stark.

Having been a booming success during it’s opening weekend, ‘Iron Man 2′ has pleased many fans and some critics, however I think that its negative reviews were not deserved. Favreau knew after Iron Man that if a sequel were to be made then he would have to pull out all of the stops, and he did. It’s no secret that successful sequels are incredibly rare these days so he did what he could. He stuck with what worked and decided to expand in all directions, the results turned out to be impressively admirable. Not to mention his numerous and humorous appearances in his reprised role as Happy Hogan.

Although the beautiful Scarlett Johansson was dressed to impress as she sported a surprisingly comfortable (her words, not mine!) leather cat suit, wowing male audiences everywhere during her action sequences as S.H.I.E.L.D agent Black Widow. Let’s not forget the lovely Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pots strapped on her boots and made an impact as an important figure of Stark Industries. Or possibly the most looked forward to aspect of the film was Don Cheadle as he lit up the sky alongside Stark as War Machine. But what surprised many were not only one, but two villains in the sequel, the obvious one being Mickey Rourke as the relentless Whiplash.

Surrounded by a mix of classic rock songs from the likes of ‘Queen’ and ‘AC/DC’ and the electronic reverberations from ‘Daft Punk‘, you’ll be drawn in until you fully appreciate everything ‘Iron Man 2′ contains. Ultimately, what some consider a disappointment of its predecessor was a witty, laughter inducing,  summer success with as much excitement in it as Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) has guns, who also did a fantastic performance. ‘Iron Man 2′ played on it’s strengths and didn’t need the likes of 3D to rake in audiences, that should say something. Definitely worth seeing at the cinema and buying on DVD.

I don’t care what the critics have to say…I’m so excited to see this. It’s an all-star cast with what I’m hoping will be an equally strong storyline. Great review!!!

I went to see it this weekend and I liked it a lot, not only because I’m a fan of Mr. Downey. Some people claimed it was too boring because it had to much dialogue, but it wasn’t like that at all. When I first stumbled upon your review I had my fingers crossed for it to be a good review and as I had hoped I enjoyed it. You pointed out everything I liked in the film and did it justice.
