Chris Halawani:Life on Hip Hop

Every kid has an outlet of choice. Some use art, others love, or the most reckless of them all, drugs.  For Chris Halawani a life steeped in struggle has only ever been cooled by one powerful medium: Dance. In this week’s HSK Spotlight, Chris shares the story of his life, and how hip hop has transformed his story from one of abandonment to empowerment. He is the epitome of resilience and fortitude and can inspire us all. Chris is a junior at Sylmar High School, and will continue to pursue dance upon graduating.

I think it is great that we have a spot in high skool kronicles to highlight all accomplishments people make. It is awesome to be able to see how much potential sylmar high students have. This is a very inspirational part of high skool kronicles, because it helps you learn to give the best of you. Congratulations Chris, for choosing dancing over drugs or any other things that could had harmed you. Keep up the great work. Just remember to do good in your studies too.. :) and good luck in your dancing career. There’s a great future ahead of you.

This whole idea is really cool I have really enjoyed watching this and its even inspirational to me. I feel like you can see the talent and passion that the people highlighted have. I am so happy that Sylmar is being represented by such positive people. My favorite part other than the actual dancing was when Chris mentions “… everyone has a story.” I always say this and it is one of the reasons I am who I am and I really could relate to him with this phrase. This is a great addition to high skool kronicles.

i think that it is really cool that chris is following his dream. i mean that there is alot more for him to be doing other then living his life the right way and he still chooses to go to school and do the right thing and know him personaly and he is a really cool person. but the main thing is that there is a different thing to do for ever kid and being a teen you look for things to do cause of your age and i think that people under judge teens that dance and look to music and alot of people think that musis isnt something that you should do they think that music is a waist of time and that there is no point in it and that there is no point toit… I think that it is great that you find something to do with your time and that you have something to do other then drugs sex and things we shouldnt be doing… life is too short i mean like you have to do what you have to do in life but having something that is insperational to do is better then the streets. so me being a kid that loves music too is something i look forward to doing in the future I spend most of my time focused on music and my life is basically focused on music and that is just me..so i think that every teen, child and even adults should do what they want to do in life and follow their dreams and reach for their goals in life

    enjoy always and forever…

It’s a pleasure that Sylmar High School is included in this website. Chris H. is indeed a special kid and he’s very good at dancing, I really didn’t know him well, despite the fact that I had him for a class. But his life wasn’t very easy and simple yet hes well known for being kind, he has decent grades and hes good at dancing and that’s something that is inspiring, to know that even though life might not be easy there’s something that can keep you going.
