Chris Brown, a Second Chance
I
’m sure we have all heard plenty about Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna last year. It has been over a year, since the actual incident and charges, but people are still discussing it. Chris Brown has since paid his fines, and completed community service for his crime, yet people have yet to forgive him for what he has done. He has publicly apologized to his fan base and others whom have felt anger towards his actions. After watching Brown’s video, I feel that his apology is quite genuine and that he regrets the assault; however, most radio stations do not seem to feel the same way. Almost all of the large stations have not played Chris Brown’s music–new and old–since the allegations first arose. This is because they feel that if they are to play his music they may lose some of their fans, who would be upset by it. Radio Stations assume that they will be looked down upon for supporting the career of someone who “beats women.”
While listening to the radio the other day, the DJ asked a question: “Do you feel that we should play Chris Brown’s music?” Immediately, listeners were calling in to share their thoughts. After approximately 20 minutes, not one person said Brown’s songs should be withheld. One viewer who was angered that his songs were not being played explained that enjoying music does not mean supporting actions or a crime. I have to agree, not too many of us say, “I love this song because I support everything this artist does.”
It’s time to move forward; everyone makes mistakes. We should not hold something against someone and, consequently, deny fans what they want. It is never right to hurt another person–male or female–but we can learn from our actions and improve ourselves through our experiences.
Radio stations should remember that they cannot please everyone; there will always be people who disagree with some of the music they play. We have continued to support other artists despite their mistakes or allegations against them; for instance, Michael Jackson, John Mayer, and Akon just to name a few. If we can praise MJ after death, support John Mayer, and still play Akon’s songs on the radio, Chris Brown should not be any less deserving of getting his second chance. He deserves the opportunity to show people an improvement in himself as an artist and a person. If we do not give him that we could miss out on his amazing talent.

Very Cool, co-sign!
This is such a big step for him! I have to admit – i`m a pretty big Chris Brown fan.
Whether people hate or love him – this song is amazing!
finally someone agrees with me! I dont think that stations should take it out on him. Its in the past, and everyone does deserve a second chance. Like you said, we praised MJ even after knowing everythin. Why can’t we praise Chris Brown, he shouldnt be forgotten or neglected because of his mistakes. We are all HUMAN!
I LOVE Chris Brown! I agree they should play his music. He has paid the prices for what he has done no one is perfect and he is an example of that.
I LOVE Chris Brown! I agree I think people need to get over what he did he paid the price for his actions! No one is perfect and he is an example of that.
After reading the artcile and being a fan of Chris Brown before his assualt i can say that i along with many have loss respect for him. Although, he has gained some with all of his genuine apologies. He as a person made a mistake and we all do. However, his music is something that we cannot be biased about because of what he did to Rihanna. He is a very talented artist and im looking forward to listening to is music to come. The radio and people shouldnt jugde his music based on his actions. He is regardless going to make hits and be a star as he was before, but he won’t be the icon he was.
