How about the anniversary of the shooting of President Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth? Close, but sorry Lincoln, this one trumps it. On April 14th, 2010, free speech got on its knees and surrendered to fear and intimidation. It perished at the hands of Comedy Central.

Just off the heels of the recent television success of fist pumping powerhouse Jersey Shore, America has a new guilty pleasure, Jerseylicious. The new show on the Style Network follows the goings-on of a newly reopened Central New Jersey salon, The Gatsby.

Just when you think TV networks have produced the apex of mind-numbing shows like Real Housewives, For the Love of Ray Jay, and Keeping up with the Kardashians (admittedly my Thursday night lineup), enter Jersey Shores.

2009 celebrated more outrageous celebrities, shocking stories, and history-making moments than perhaps any other year. We ushered in the year with the first African-American president in office, we pined over the inevitable split between Jon and Kate, we followed a make-believe story about a boy in a balloon, and watched bold and deviant musicians like Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga rise to stardom. Have you noticed that the channels MTV and G4 are not as good as they used to be? Did you ever wonder how such great channels and shows ended up being the pile of crap they are today? I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, but all I can say is that the television industry is becoming lazier by the day and they are running out of ideas fast.
